Sustrans – Charity Helping People to chose Healthier, Cleaner and Cheaper Journeys
Having leisure and sport cycling routes is as important as having adequate commuting routes.
Areas such as Regent’s Park Outer Circle offer a safe haven for cyclists to have fun, keep fit and are where many people get their first taste of cycling.
Regent’s Park Cyclists have worked hard to bring this cycling community together, but in particular they have been able to show that people cycling for sports and leisure can coexist with other users of the park, in particular pedestrians.
Sustrans support Regent’s Park Cyclists desire to protect and maintain this unique environment for sports and recreational cycling.
What we would really like to see is temporary or permanent road closures to significantly reduce vehicles using the park as a through route, which would improve the quality of the park for all and make cycling in the Outer Circle absolutely unique.
Aspire Charity Supporting People with Spinal Chord Injury
Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help to those that have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury. We are encouraged to see Regent’s Park roadways being used as a safe destination for wheelchair athletes. As a busy metropolitan city, London has few open roads that are suitable for wheelchair athletes to use, so we are highly supportive of the Regents Park Cyclists group in their efforts to maintain this venue as an accessible and safe location for both cyclist and wheelchair users.
Matt Barbet, Cyclist, Journalist & Television Presenter
Like any proud cycling Londoner, I love to see the legacy of the Olympics, and British success in the Tour de France, encouraging more people in the city to get out on their bikes. Regent’s Park Outer Circle is a unique oasis in central London for riding. Thousands of people of all abilities safely use it to keep fit because of the wide, smooth and uncluttered roads. To change that would be disastrous, and a huge backwards step for London. I am completely behind Regent’s Park Cyclists and their mission to protect this unique facility for future cycling generations.

Fitness First
Fitness First are very keen to support Regent’s Park Cyclists desire to maintain this unique central London space. We believe in inspiring people to work on their fitness wherever they are – not just in the gym – and we know that the biggest barriers to living a healthier, fitter lifestyle are time, motivation, and ‘access’ – finding a place to work out. Regents Park is a wonderful location currently providing cyclists with an opportunity to get and stay fit, and long may it remain so.
